Priority Room Selection for Current Residents

Participate in Priority Room Selection to get first pick of your desired community and room assignment for Academic Year 2017-2018 – even the exact same room where available! We offer two rounds of Priority Room Selection for current residents. Eligibility for each round is determined by the date of housing contract completion.

  • Housing Contract completed by February 1st: you will be eligible to participate in Round 1 of Priority Room Selection. Current residents that complete their contract by this date will have the largest selection of residence hall rooms and types (based on availability).
  • Housing Contract completed February 2nd - March 1st: you will be eligible to participate in Round 2 of Priority Room Selection (based on availability).

Review the info below to make sure you complete everything in time to participate.

Key Deadlines
February 1

ROUND 1: Deadline for Housing Contract Completion

  • Current Residents MUST complete their housing contract by this date in order to participate in Round 1 of Priority Room Selection.

ROUND 1 & 2: Roommate Search Opens (available until 6/1/17)

  • Find and request a roommate through the roommate search program in My USAHousing  (optional) - all within the 'Manage Roommates' step
  • Requests (if applicable) must be mutually accepted BEFORE you pick your room. Learn more by visiting our Roommates page.
February 2 - 8

ROUND 1: Priority Room Selection Invitations Sent 

  • For current residents who completed their housing contract by February 1
  • Invitations to participate will be sent to your JagMail in early February. You will be given a specific time slot (day/time) to participate in Room Selection based on your current classification and hours completed as listed in PAWS.
February 13 - 14

RENEW YOUR ROOM beginning @ 8:00 AM

  • If your room is available to renew, you will see a step in your Academic Year contract labeled "Renew Your Room" (inside My USAHousing). 
  • If this step is not visible, your room is not eligible to renew. Some returning residents may be unable to select their current assignment and/or building due to spaces being held for entering first-year students or a special program (academic, athletic, or administrative).
February 15 - 27 

ROUND 1: Priority Room Selection Timeline
For current residents who complete their Academic Year contract by February 1.  Refer to your Invitation in JagMail for specific timeslot (if applicable).

After selecting an initial reservation, students will be able to search for other spaces using the Room Swap section of the Room Selection page in My USAHousing.

March 1

ROUND 2: Deadline for Housing Contract Completion

  • Current Residents MUST complete their housing contract by this date in order to participate in Round 2 of Priority Room Selection.
March 2

ROUND 2: Priority Room Selection Invitations Sent

  • For current residents who completed their housing contract between 2/2/17 and 3/1/17
  • Invitations to self-assign (choose your hall and room) will be sent to your University email (JagMail). This email will contain your specific 'Room Selection Timeslot' based on your current hours completed as listed in PAWS.
March 6

ROUND 2: Priority Room Selection Timeline
For Current Residents (ALL classifications) who complete their Academic Year contract between February 2 and March 1. Refer to your Invitation in JagMail for specific timeslot (if applicable).

After selecting an initial reservation, students will be able to search for other spaces using the Room Swap section of the Room Selection page in My USAHousing.

▼   How do I renew my current room?

Residents wishing to keep their current room assignment should follow the steps below during the "Renew Your Room" period (see key dates above):

> Visit southalabama.edu/MyUSAHousing
> Login using your Jag number and JagMail password
> Select "Housing Contract" (upper left area of screen)
> Select your contract term (i.e. Academic Year 2017-2018)
> If your room is available to renew, you will see a step labeled "Renew
   Your Room". If this step is not visible, your room is NOT eligible to renew.

Note: Ineligibility of room renewal may be due to building classification (i.e. freshmen only), and/or academic/athletic/administrative reasons.

▼   How do I select a different room?
  • Pick your hall and room through the Room Selection step in the My USAHousing portal during your specific 'Room Selection Timeslot' (received via JagMail).
  • Once you have a room, you can pick a different available hall or room if interested (available until July 1).
▼   What if I want a room that's not available?
First you must select a room that is available. Once you have a room, you can pick a different available hall or room if interested through the Room Swap feature of My USAHousing (available until July 1). More info will be posted closer to Priority Room Selection.
▼   What if I don't complete my contract by the deadline?

If you miss the deadline for Round 1 of Priority Room Selection you will still have an opportunity to participate in Round 2 (see contract completion deadlines above). If you miss BOTH contract completion deadlines, you are still eligible to complete your housing contract. But your assignment will be made based on the processed outlined on our Getting Started page.

▼   Can financial aid be used to make $150 prepayment?
No. Since financial aid will not be disbursed until August all students, including financial aid and scholarship recipients, are required to complete their $150 prepayment by the contract completion deadline in order to participate in Priority Room Selection.
▼   Can I still select a room after my timeslot?
 More info will be posted for this question closer to Priority Room Selection.
▼   What if I decide to cancel after completing my contract?

You may cancel your contract any time prior to taking occupancy of a room for that contract term (have not signed for a key nor moved in). More details can be found inside My USAHousing within your housing contract.

> Select your Contract Term (i.e. Academic Year 2017-2018)
> Select the 'Cancel Contract' option (upper right area of screen)
> Review contract cancellation terms, fees, and instructions
> Scroll to the bottom of that page and click the 'Cancel Contract' button

Since we know some students will change their minds during this important decision-making period, any current resident who completes their Academic Year 2017-2018 housing contract by February 1st and submits a contract cancellation between February 15 - March 1 (online in My USAHousing) will receive a full refund of their $150 prepayment.
